Guinea's Bauxite Output Surges 25% in Q1 2026 as Government Plans Export Curbs: Official Data

The West African nation shipped 60.9 million tonnes between January and March, driven largely by Chinese-linked producers, according to mines ministry data.

The surge comes as the government prepares to impose export restrictions to lift prices that have fallen to a four‑year low of 32–38 per tonnes.

Authorities say the curbs aim to protect smaller miners from bankruptcy and preserve jobs.

Full‑year output reached about 183 million tonnes in 2025, with more than 70% of Guinea’s bauxite shipped to China, making the country critical to Beijing’s aluminum supply chain.
