SA Extends Measures to Mitigate Fuel Price Increase: Statement

Earlier announced $0.18 reduction in fuel levy is extended until June 2 to cushion South African households from the surge in petroleum prices amid the Middle East crisis, according to a government statement.

"For the month of June 2026, the minister of finance proposes that the level of relief is halved to phase out the relief before July, the statement said.

The estimated cost of these measures is $1 billion in foregone tax revenue, funded through higher-than-expected tax receipts and underspending, with no impact on the approved fiscal framework, according to the government.
