Zanzibar Plans Its Own National Airline to Unlock Direct Tourism Flows: Minister

The lack of direct routes forces visitors to rely on connecting flights and charter services, limiting the islands’ tourism potential, Minister for Labour and Investment Shariff Ali Shariff said.

The government is in preliminary talks with potential investors to form a consortium for the proposed airline, Shariff noted.

The plan is reportedly part of a broader push to diversify the economy, showcased at the upcoming Zanzibar Investment Summit 2026, which will highlight projects in infrastructure, ICT, real estate, blue economy, and industrial development.
