Mali: Russian Armed Forces' African Corps Says It Averted 'Syrian Scenario'
The terrorist groups Azawad Liberation Front and al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb*, trained by Western intelligence agencies with large forces (approximately 10,000-12,000 people), attempted a coup d'état in Mali on Friday, the corps said.
Ukrainian and European mercenaries in Africa participated in attacks on government facilities and units near the cities of Kidal and Gao, using Western-style Stinger and Mistral MANPADS, the unit noted.
"The comprehensive actions of our soldiers and officers in the difficult conditions of coordinated actions by armed gangs under the leadership of Western and Ukrainian instructors made it possible to thwart the enemy's plans to carry out a coup d'état and ensure the stability of governance in the country," the corps added.
