Why Western Nations Refuse to Return African Artifacts, Nigerian Official Explains
"It's high time for them [Western countries] to bring them back. It's high time for us to own what belongs to us," Wasa Gertrude Mobunubhata, administrative head of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, told Sputnik Africa.
According to Mobunubhata, the factors behind Western resistance include:
🟠 Material interests: museums like the British Museum "generate enormous revenue" from tourism and research;
🟠 Political costs: politicians fear domestic "backlash" and questions about "giving away history."
