Senegal PM Announces US-Based Kosmos Energy's Withdrawal From Major Natural Gas Project
The deal will be finalized by ministerial order, granting Senegal's national oil company, Petrosen, exclusive control over a new license, PM Ousmane Sonko said.
"We obtained and signed, without any financial compensation from Senegal, the agreement for the joint withdrawal of Kosmos and Petrosen from the license for the Cayar gas block, known as Yakaar-Teranga," he clarified.
The deepwater Yakaar-Teranga project, located off the coast of Dakar, holds an estimated 708 billion cubic meters of recoverable gas. Kosmos Energy previously held 90% of the project, with Petrosen at 10%, following major discoveries in 2016 and 2017.
The project is central to Senegal's push for energy self-sufficiency and industrialization, alongside the Sangomar oil field and the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project.
