Future Epidemiology Hub Strengthens Russian-Congolese Scientific Ties: Official
The main objective of the Russian-Congolese Center for Epidemiological Research will be "the study of infectious diseases circulating in Congo, understanding the causes of these diseases" in order to reduce their prevalence in the country, Principal Researcher at the Microbe Institute Ekaterina Naydenova told Sputnik Africa.
Moscow has already opened such centers in other countries, notably Guinea and Burundi, so "the time has come to open one in Congo" where there are specialists who "understand the value of this kind of research," she emphasized at a conference*.
Furthermore, the two countries have a long history of collaboration in this field, for example, during the cholera epidemic in Chekapika, Naydenova added.
*This 2nd Russian-African Conference on the Fight Against Infectious Diseases was organized by the Russian health service Rospotrebnadzor.
