East African Countries Discuss Joint Oil Refinery Project: Kenya's President

Kenya and Tanzania, along with their neighbors, are planning to construct their own oil refinery in the Tanzanian port of Tanga in order not to depend on petroleum imports from the Middle East and other regions, William Ruto said on the sidelines of the "Africa We Build" summit in Nairobi.

"We're going to have a joint refinery in Tanga to benefit all of us because that refinery is going to take on board the oil from DR Congo, the oil from Kenya, the oil from South Sudan, and the oil from Uganda," media quoted Kenya's president as saying.

Uganda is also planning to build a refinery to generate significant benefits, President Yoweri Museveni stated.

Nigeria's Aliko Dangote is expressing his agreement to build a refinery in East Africa on the model of the Dangote one.
