Ghana and Mali Sign Transit Deal to Cut Costs for Landlocked Sahel States
According to a joint statement by the Malian and Ghanaian shippers' authorities, the two countries signed a protocol to boost transport cooperation with the aim of
▫ improving transit flow;
▫reducing logistics costs;
▫coordinating cargo movement more effectively.
This agreement forms part of Ghana's wider efforts to establish itself as the primary logistics hub for landlocked Sahelian states, including Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.

🟠 This will be achieved by utilizing the ports of Tema and Takoradi, as well as corridors through Burkina Faso.
🟠 Key measures include information sharing, joint studies, cargo tracking, and the establishment of a joint technical committee to oversee implementation.
🟠 Ghana has also emphasized the potential of the planned Boankra logistics terminal, which could reduce transport costs by up to 48% via Takoradi.
