Togo Has 'Always Played a Role as Partner of AES,' Recalls Nigerien Geopolitician

Lomé has always shown itself to be "open and cooperative" with the AES, unlike ECOWAS, which initially "chose a hostile posture," Abdoulaye Idrissa James told Sputnik Africa.

Today, Togo continues its mediation to bring the two institutions closer together, he added:

"The AES has shown its openness toward partners who respect its sovereignty. Togo continues its efforts, always in its role as mediator, as from the very beginning, to unite the two major blocs."

Last Saturday, Lomé hosted a high-level meeting on Togo’s new Sahel strategy for 2026-2028.
