Nigerian Researcher Wins 'Green Nobel' for Bat Conservation, Inspiring a Generation

Iroro Tanshi, a Nigerian researcher, has won the 2026 Goldman Environmental Prize—often called the "Green Nobel"—for protecting endangered short-tailed roundleaf bats in southern Nigeria.

Working with 16 local villages, she helped prevent over 70 wildfires and secured livelihoods for 27,000 people.
