Ugandan, Congolese Troops Rescue 200 Captives From Daesh-Linked Militants in Eastern DRC: Uganda's Army
Among those freed from an Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) camp along the Epulu River was a 14-year-old girl, according to the Ugandan military.
"Several appeared frail, suffering from untreated illnesses such as malaria, respiratory infections, and physical exhaustion," the army statement said.
The ADF, a Ugandan group aligned with Daesh*, has killed thousands in eastern Congo since 2014 and is known for mass kidnappings and forced marriages. Uganda has had troops in Congo since 2021 to help counter the group.
*Daesh (also known as ISIS/ISIL/IS) is a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia and many other countries
