African Banks Break $100 Billion Revenue Barrier for First Time

South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Kenya lead the sector, accounting for about 70% of $107 billion continental banking revenue, according to McKinsey data cited by SABC.

African banks also boast one of the world's highest profitability levels—19% return on equity in 2024, compared to the global average of 10%.
