"A sustained closure would send shockwaves through East and Southern African economies in ways that are deeply underestimated in current policy planning," Mohammed Hussain AbdAlwahid, PhD in political science and senior lecturer at Russia's Financial University, told Sputnik Africa.
The Hormuz crisis creates "compounded vulnerabilities" not only in the energy sector, but also in food security, as it hits "bread prices and transport costs," he added.
