Rare Greek & Roman Eras Artifacts Uncovered in Egypt: Ministry of Tourism

The find adds to the series of major archaeological discoveries recently recorded in the Governorate of Minya and highlights the richness and diversity of Egyptian civilization, Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities noted.

The artifacts include:

▶mummies, some still wrapped in patterned textiles;

▶brightly painted wooden coffins;

▶three gold and one bronze tongue placed in or near mouths;

▶limestone burial rooms with jars of burnt remains and animal bones;

▶terracotta and bronze figurines, including Harpocrates and a small Cupid statue.

The discovery provides new insights into the funerary practices in the city of al‑Behansa during the Greek and Roman periods, Hisham Lithi, Secretary‑General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities noted.
