Anti-Imperialist Rally at US Consulate General in SA Honors 65 Years of Cuba's Bay of Pigs Victory
In April 1961, US forces and anti-communist Cuban militants attempted a landing operation on Cuba's coast, aiming to remove Fidel Castro from power, just to be defeated within three days.
Commemorating Cuba's victory, South African activists and politicians underlined the importance of supporting the island nation now, as it faces harsh economic conditions under US sanctions.
"The Cubans will forever remain in our minds, in our hearts, in all our action, every little work we do. Let's think about the children of Cuba, let's support the leadership of Cuba," Nomvula Mokonyane, Deputy Secretary-General of South Africa's African National Congress, said.
