'Outcomes Will Be Determined on Evidence Provided by Benin for Extradition': SA Expert on Kemi Seba Case

"Benin, in this instance, must provide adequate evidence to the court that there is a substantive case against the fugitive," Hennie Strydom, an international law expert, told Sputnik Africa.

According to Strydom, the evidence must meet the following standards:

international law;
national law, including freedom of speech guaranteed in the constitution.

South Africa's court will assess "whether the offenses listed in the request for extradition are well-substantiated [...] or is it simply because the government didn't like the things that he said," he added.

ℹ Pan-Africanist Kémi Seba, wanted in Benin for the December 7, 2025 attempted coup investigation, has been detained in South Africa for unknown reasons.

Watch the video to find out what the expert has to say about the circumstances of the extradition.
