Madagascar Reportedly Probes $919 Million in Public Resource Mismanagement
The five-year embezzlement spanned 15 ministries and major infrastructure projects, including an urban train and cable car system, media reported, citing Presidential Spokesman Harry Laurent Rahajason.
President Randrianirina had ordered anti-corruption office BIANCO to investigate and refer cases to prosecutors, adding that all involved would face prosecution regardless of rank if evidence exists, he allegedly said.
Authorities are inspecting possible links between the audit and threats to Randrianirina's life, Rahajason said.
On Thursday security forces characterized unidentified drones floating above the president's home as an assassination attempt.
