According to Director of Communications Harry Laurent Rahajason, whose statement was cited by L'Express de Madagascar, five drones conducted a nighttime flyover of the presidential residence. The president's security service used anti-UAV jamming systems, causing the drones to depart.
Rahadzasón said an investigation has been launched. He clarified that the drones were not armed but equipped with infrared surveillance equipment to monitor activities and the number of people inside the residence.
He described the incident as a possible attempt at intimidation by external forces opposed to Madagascar's plans to diversify its fuel supplies. Intelligence services also received information about plans to set fire to the parliament building on Saturday, April 18.
In early April, authorities accused 13 people of plotting a coup and an assassination attempt on the president.
