Ethiopia's Koysha Dam 76% Complete, Set to Boost Country's Power Supply: Ministry
The hydroelectric dam is expected to generate 6,460 GWh of electricity upon completion, positioning it among Africa’s largest hydropower projects, the Ministry of Water and Energy announced.
The construction firm previously behind the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has taken over the project, which is anticipated to accelerate its completion, the ministry noted.
Koysha will generate roughly one‑third of GERD’s capacity. Supporting infrastructure is being prioritized to ensure timely operational readiness, according to the statement.
