Kenya Hikes Fuel Prices by Up to 24% as Middle East Conflict Drives Up Crude Costs: Regulator

Retail petrol was raised by 16.1% and diesel by 24.2% by the country's Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), citing a surge in imported fuel costs (up 68.7%) due to the US-Iran conflict.

Petrol in Kenya, which imports nearly all its fuel from Gulf suppliers, now costs 206.97 Kenyan shillings ($1.60) per liter, while diesel stands at 206.84 shillings.

The EPRA also reduced VAT on petroleum products from 16% to 13% to cushion consumers. Motorists reportedly rushed to fill tanks before the new prices took effect.
