Zimbabwe Facilitates About $500 Million Coal-to-Fertilizer Investment to Boost Domestic Supply: State Media

Chinese companies Sunny Yi Feng—already a major ceramics manufacturer in the region—and Wintrue Holdings are in advanced talks with Zimbabwe's Ministry of Industry and Commerce to establish a coal-based fertilizer plant in Norton.

“This investment will enable Zimbabwe to become self-sufficient in fertilizer production by 2030, producing over 300 000 tonnes of urea annually,” Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce Thomas Utete Wushe said after recently meeting with government officials to finalize the investment modalities for the project.

ℹZimbabwe requires 780,000 tonnes of fertilizer annually but remains a net importer, as domestic manufacturer Windmill runs at just 10% capacity.
