Ethiopia Launches $577.8 Million Refugee Response Plan: Government
The government, in partnership with 38 partners, has unveiled the 2026 Refugee Response Plan, which aims to support 1.86 million refugees and host communities. This includes the 1.12 million refugees currently present in Ethiopia as of the end of 2025.
Main refugee populations in the country:
South Sudan: 520,896
Somalia: 390,603
Eritrea: 183,967
Sudan: 106,259
The plan, based on the 2024 "Right to Work Directive," allows refugees to work formally and start businesses. Over 138,000 refugees have registered under the national 'Fayda' digital ID system, enabling access to banking, mobile SIMs, healthcare, and education.
