What Are Future & Challenges of Space Industry in Africa? Nigerian Students Explain

"Space technology in Africa is a rapidly evolving discussion. We've seen a lot of potentials. We've seen a lot of advances. [...] We cannot be relegated to the background anymore, right?" Joshua Brown, geo-informatics student of the Institute of Space Science & Engineering in Abuja, told Sputnik Africa correspondent Ridah Chebet.

However, several challenges remain, according to Joshua Brown & Sadiyah Haleematu Bindir, aerospace engineering student:

🟠Insufficient funding due to many competing priorities;

🟠Data gaps and lack of sophisticated hardware and high-speed computing power to handle big data from satellites;

🟠Brain drain as "experts trained in space technology don't stay within the African ecosystem";

🟠Lack of public awareness about how important good, accurate, local data is.

Watch the video to learn what the students think the future holds for space technology in Africa.
