Can Niger Turn Its Low-Cost Fuel Into Sustainable Advantage? Experts Explain
In the face of the global surge in fuel prices, Niger faces several challenges, Bana Ibrahim, president of the geopolitical commission at the Consultative Council for Refoundation, told Sputnik Africa.
They are:
🟠The low price of Nigerien fuel attracts smuggling and could reduce its availability in certain regions, presenting a risk of cross-border tensions;
🟠Energy needs "will increase in this context where we are embarking on an era of industrialization."
To maintain balance within the AES, fixed prices have been introduced, Mamane Nouri, president of the Consumer Protection Association, told Sputnik Africa.
The nationalization of certain oil wells is also a "very good initiative," Nouri concluded.
