New Africa Journal of Cancer Research Aims to Rewrite Continent's Narrative in Oncology, Says Founder
Africa has long been studied but rarely centered in cancer research, with most data externally driven and interpreted, says Dr. Miriam Mutebi, breast surgical oncologist at Aga Khan University Hospital in Kenya.
The launch of the African Journal of Cancer Research seeks to shift the narrative from "Africa as a problem to solve" to "Africa as a partner in innovation," she told Sputnik Africa.
The journal, issued by the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer, will provide a platform for researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and civil society to share locally generated knowledge and align priorities, according to Dr. Mutebi.
"Nobody's coming to solve our problems," she stated. "We have the resources, we have the workforce, we have the enthusiasm. All we need is better coordination."
