Middle East Conflict Disrupts Humanitarian Aid to Iran and Africa, Agencies Report

The ongoing conflict is disrupting vaccine and aid shipments to Iran and African countries, driving up costs and delivery times, US media reported, citing UNICEF and Save the Children.

Vaccine deliveries to countries like Nigeria and Iran now cost 20% more and take ten days longer when transiting via Turkey, UNICEF’s global transport chief said.

An alternative Red Sea route for Sudan-bound supplies adds ten days and 25% in costs, according to Save the Children.

The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28, with Tehran retaliating against Israeli and US military targets across the Middle East and enforcing a full closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
