DRC Moves to Disarm Rwanda Genocide-Linked Militia: Army's Deputy Chief of Staff

The Democratic ‌Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) "must hand over their weapons, willingly or by force," Lieutenant General Nduru Jacques Ychaligonza, deputy chief of staff of the Congolese armed forces said.

It marks a key step in implementing a US-brokered peace deal between Congo and Rwanda.

Rwanda has long demanded to neutralize the FDLR for lasting peace with Congo, while the two countries have traded accusations. Rwanda accused Congo of fighting alongside the group, and Congo accused Rwanda of backing the M23 rebels.

A video by the DRC armed force shows Ychaligonza launching operations against the FDLR in Kisangani.
