'May Women's Voices Be Taken Into Account': African Women Senators
The participants at the Conference of African Women Ministers and Parliamentarians, held on March 25-27 in Ndjamena, discussed the emancipation of women and their participation in public institutions, Chadian senator Madjidian Padja Ruth told Sputnik Africa.
"With these meetings, I believe that the tone is also set by the women who want and demand their presence in all instances of the management of public affairs," she stated.
Her Cameroonian counterpart Aminatou Ngangoube stated that they would urge "ministers, senators, women politicians and entrepreneurs to come together for the financial empowerment of women and young people."
"There is no peace without development. Yet woman is the artisan of peace," the senator emphasized.
The conference resulted in several recommendations, including:
🟠increasing the representation of women in political institutions;
🟠accelerating their economic empowerment;
🟠implementing the women, peace and security agenda;
🟠creating a national observatory for gender equality;
🟠taking concrete measures to improve women's access to education, health and essential resources.
