'Now is Good Opportunity to Strengthen Ties With Russia to Secure Africa's Food Security,' SA Scholar Says

In an interview with Sputnik Africa, Tafadzwa Ruzive, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of the Free State, highlighted the potential for African countries to diversify their fertilizer supply chains through partnerships with Russia.

Africa’s food security is intrinsically linked to Russia’s agricultural expertise, including fertilizers and machinery, Ruzive argued.

↪ He believes that the current geopolitical instability in the Middle East offers a unique opportunity for Africa to strengthen ties with Russia, creating a more secure and sustainable alternative.

“Cooperating with Russia is done on level terms,” said Ruzive. “African countries are treated as equals, with tangible long-term investments and respect, without the power dynamics or economic extraction seen in Western partnerships.”
