At Trade Union Gender Conference, SA Minister Calls for Peace & Development of Care Economy
"We need to have a national strategy on the care economy so that that woman who's sitting at home taking care of a sick brother or mother or whoever can also be recognized on her contribution towards the economy and the growth of economy in South Africa," Sindisiwe Chikunga, Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, told Sputnik Africa.
The minister gave the interview after delivering a keynote address on the care economy at the 2nd National Gender Elective Conference for COSATU.
"Our take as women in South Africa is that we should never see wars as actual options to resolve whatever challenges [...] Our take: we are with those women in any part of the world, in any parts of the continent where there is war."
