Niger and Algeria Share Very Long Border and Can Combat Transnational Armed Groups: Political Analyst

“A bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Niger will make it possible to better stabilize the security context,” Mahamane Mourtala told Sputnik Africa, welcoming the second session of the Niger-Algeria Joint Commission in Niamey.

On the economic level, the establishment of cooperation with countries like Algeria “allows Niger to diversify and find alternative supply routes to the traditional ones we have known,” the political analyst added.

The Trans-Saharan gas pipeline project “will enable Niger to export its resources—hydrocarbons, namely natural gas—to the European market via Algeria,” as well as the development of transport infrastructure, including “a railway project extending to the Niger-Algeria border.”
