Middle East Conflict: 'We Are Inevitably Heading Toward Shortage of Goods' in Africa, Senegalese Expert

For the poorest countries in Africa, the consequences of a prolonged conflict in the Middle East will be systemic, Oumar Cissé, executive director of the Association of Traders and Industrialists of Senegal told Sputnik Africa.

The doubling of oil prices has already triggered an inevitable inflationary mechanism, but the main threat lies in the physical unavailability of goods, according to the expert.

“These are stocks that do not last long, two to three months at most,” he emphasized.

The situation is even more critical as 90% of consumed goods are imported, leaving countries on the continent unprotected against external shocks.

“Let us hope that the war is completely stopped, otherwise everyone will suffer. But especially our countries, which are very poor,” he concluded.
