Speaking at Freedom Park, Dr. Jane Mufamadi emphasized that countries with a history of oppression have a responsibility to support others facing similar struggles, recalling the importance of international backing during South Africa’s own fight for freedom.

“It is important for global peace and stability that we support, we cherish each other, [and] we build peace,” she told Sputnik Africa, adding that conflicts abroad can have real consequences at home, including rising costs of living.

Mufamadi also highlighted the presence of veterans and international partners at the commemoration, underscoring the shared history that helped shape a new political chapter in Southern Africa.

“They said the reason why this war was fought was to make a difference in people's lives, which they say is a journey that we still continue because many people are still struggling even as we are free today.”
