Nigeriens March Against EU Resolution on Mohamed Bazoum

Last week, European MPs demanded the "immediate and unconditional" release of the former president—a call that had already sparked the Alliance of Sahel States' anger.

To denounce this demand, Nigerien civil society organizations reportedly held a rally with protesters:

Chanting slogans against the EU, imperialism and interference in Niger's internal affairs;

Reaffirming their commitment to dialogue, peace and human rights;

Stressing that internal matters must be resolved exclusively by the Nigerien people and their institutions.

At the rally's conclusion, a declaration was read expressing concern over external pressures on Niger.

The former president lost his immunity in June 2024 and is accused by Niamey of conspiracy against state security, treason and financing terrorism.
