"The countries most at risk are those that combine valuable natural resources, weak institutions, internal divisions, plus, have a conflicting situation with one or more neighbouring country," Robinder Sachdev, a geopolitical and economic diplomacy analyst and founder of the ImagIndia Institute, told Sputnik.
Thus, several African countries "will face these dangers to their sovereignty," he noted.
"Early 21st century is showing that whenever two Global South states are in conflict—and especially when strategic resources are involved—the possibility of outside intervention, proxy involvement, or coercive pressure rises sharply."
What’s the solution? Southern countries must forge alternative ties and alliances in financial, military, and other strategic spheres. According to Sachdev, they have no other choice if they want to preserve their sovereignty.
He believes Russia can serve as an example of such diversification, as it is undertaking a comprehensive overhaul of its strategic system to reduce dependence on the West and the Euro-Atlantic space.
