STEM Boost for South Zimbabwe as 41 New Laboratories Target Educational Gap: State Media
Over 10,000 secondary school students in southwestern Matabeleland South Province are set to benefit from 41 new science laboratories being built across seven districts under the Independence Legacy Projects, a state-owned newspaper reported.
The initiative reflects President Mnangagwa’s inclusive development philosophy, ensuring “no one and no place” is left behind.
It aims to bridge a historical gap that has limited rural learners from pursuing STEM subjects.
The project has also created employment for 1,200 locals. By equipping students with necessary science experience, the labs are expected to improve university enrollment and scholarship opportunities for learners from previously marginalised communities.
Local authorities confirmed that $4.1 million was allocated for materials, sourced from local companies in line with the devolution agenda.
