South Sudan Benefits From Rising Oil Prices Amid War Against Iran: Official

‍ A return to full-scale civil war in South Sudan is unlikely, Dunga Gai Dunga Koler, Minister in the Jonglei State government, told Sputnik, noting that warnings in several reports do not reflect the reality.

While isolated tribal and political clashes persist, they are being addressed through internal processes, and the country now has a functioning government, leadership, and peace agreement. The government also aims to secure areas controlled by the Sudan People's Liberation Movement, emphasizing that no external mediation is involved, the minister noted.

Responding to whether the US-Iran war distracted from South Sudan’s peace process, Koler said the conflict has no direct political impact. Economically, however, the country benefits from rising global oil prices.

Implementation of the remaining provisions of the peace agreement continues despite challenges, particularly in the military and security sectors, he added.

In any case, the minister emphasized, Juba is not abandoning the peace course, which opens a qualitatively new stage on the path to strengthening security, stability, and social harmony, as well as the rejection of violence. No state can achieve sustainable development and stability without peace and security.
