17:12 17.03.2026 (Updated: 17:27 17.03.2026) Escalating conflict in the Middle East could have severe economic consequences for Africa, particularly through rising inflation and higher costs of basic goods, Mikatekiso Kubayi told Sputnik Africa.
“The economic consequences of this unprovoked war of choice will be significant,” he said, noting that many people could struggle to afford essentials like food and electricity.
Kubayi added that African oil-importing countries are especially vulnerable due to limited intra-African trade and weak logistics infrastructure.
He also cautioned that while solutions exist, they are not immediate:
“Investments take time to yield results because, first, productive facilities must be constructed, then production must follow.”
