State Will Prevail Over Criminality, Says SA National Police Commissioner
Government is intensifying its fight against organized crime through the deployment of the South African National Defense Force to support police operations, General Fannie Masemola said on Sunday.
🪖 President Ramaphosa has authorized the deployment of more than 2000 soldiers under Operation Prosper, who will work alongside the South African Police Service for 13 months in crime hotspots across the Free State, Gauteng, North West, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.
“The purpose of this intervention is to provide space to the SA Police Service to deal with both street crime and to disrupt, disable and dismantle organized crime groupings… and restore the rule of law in communities where criminal networks have sought to undermine the authority of the State,” Masemola said.
The operation will target threats such as illegal mining, gang violence, extortion, drug trafficking and illegal firearms.
“Working together, we will dismantle criminal networks, reclaim our communities from violence and lawlessness, and restore the sense of safety and dignity that every South African deserves.”
