Niger Does Not Need EU to Decide Internal Issues: Nigerien Civil Society Actor

The European Parliament's interference in the Sahelian nation's internal affairs is unacceptable, Bana Ibrahim told Sputnik Africa, commenting on the recent resolution demanding the release of ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

"We must go even further and recall, if the European Union has forgotten, that Niger, in which we live, is no longer the one before July 26, 2023, when it [the EU] allowed itself to issue dictates, to make dictates, and to interfere, including in the management of our country," said Ibrahim, who serves as president of the Geopolitics and International Environment Commission at the Consultative Council for Refoundation.

He reminded them that "we no longer need the European Union to pay our salaries. It is no longer as before."

According to him, Brussels would do better to focus "on the current issues that are shaking the world," including the Middle East conflict and the arrest of the Venezuelan president.

"The Sahel is now a free entity, with its worthy sons who live freely, who will not yield to any blackmail," he concluded.
