Europe Miscalculated: 'Cannot Do Without Russia,' Syrian Political Scientist Says
The EU placed its economy “at the service of a losing conflict in Ukraine,” a strategic decision that “turned out to be wrong and led to numerous crises,” Iyas Al-Khatib told Sputnik.
“Europe realized this too late,” he added.
According to the analyst, Russia had already developed its economic strategy well before the military phase of the conflict.
“Russia has preserved its domestic stability, the strength of its currency, and its oil exports, while countries that have severed ties with it have been the most affected.”
The West, already hit by the energy crisis, is quietly calling for the lifting of sanctions. What's more, the EU has lost its autonomy, de facto delegating decision-making power to Washington, the analyst noted.
“This subsequently pushed Europe into an escalation against the backdrop of its own uselessness, which resulted in an unfair confrontation, a consequence of European incapacity.”
