Reparations for Colonization Symbolize 'Struggle for Liberation of African Peoples': Burkinabé Activist
The African Union's recognition of slavery and colonialism is no accident; it is "the fruit of a long struggle" to prevent the continent's memory from being "washed away," Jules César Wangré, spokesperson for the Civic Youth for Sovereignty Association, told Sputnik Africa.
"This provides a legal framework to better assert our sovereignty and join a historical truth. It is also a legal framework to assert our concerns and, through international law, make ourselves understood in all instances," he noted.
According to Wangré, this action also shows "the advent of a multipolar world," where Africa asserts itself in the face of former colonial powers.
