SA Will Not Allow Foreign Powers to Dictate Its Global Partnerships: Nonprofit Organization Chairperson
Tensions have grown after the US ambassador said Washington’s patience was “running out” over South Africa’s refusal to distance itself from BRICS, Srinivasen Naidoo, Chairperson of the nonprofit organization Real Democracy, South Africa, told Sputnik Africa.
“We are not a vassal state; South Africa is a constitutional democracy with a sovereign foreign policy determined by our government’s national interests, our constitution, and the laws of our country.”
South Africa’s participation in BRICS is a strategic decision aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and promoting a more balanced global order. Demands to abandon such partnerships amount to interference in the country’s internal affairs, Naidoo said.
The country’s role is not to choose sides in global rivalries but to engage with different partners while protecting both its own interests and those of the African continent, the chairperson said.
Watch the video to learn what priorities he believes South Africa should pursue in strengthening cooperation with BRICS and the Global South.
