South Africa’s Agricultural Sector Powers GDP Growth in 2025: Minister
New data from Statistics SA shows the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector surged by 17.4% last year, making it the primary engine of South Africa's economic resilience, the Department of Agriculture said.
This performance helped lift the country’s annual real GDP growth rate to 1.1%, even as other traditional sectors faced headwinds.
Minister John Steenhuisen hailed the sector as a "beacon of hope" for job creation and national prosperity.
"We are witnessing the evolution of a high-tech, scientific, and economically sophisticated industry. This is the new era of farming that offers our youth a diverse range of careers in tech-driven production, global logistics, and scientific research."
