Landslides and Flooding Reportedly Claim 30 Lives in Southern Ethiopia
The disaster occurred on Tuesday, in Doisa Kebele, a local community in Gacho Baba district of Ethiopia’s Gamo Zone, where heavy rainfall triggered a landslide that initially killed four members of one family. The incident later resulted in the deaths of an additional 24 people.
Another landslide struck the area while local residents were working to rescue survivors and recover bodies, causing further fatalities.
Regional authorities warned that the ongoing rainy season could lead to similar disasters and urged communities, especially those living in mountainous and landslide-prone areas, to take the necessary precautions.
The regional administration said it will continue providing support to those affected and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
