Zimbabwe Pushing for Resource Nationalism: Local Political Analyst
Zimbabwe's suspension of raw mineral exports, including lithium concentrate, is aimed at curbing illegal export practices, enforcing stricter beneficiation, and maximizing in-country value addition, Lazarus Sauti told Sputnik Africa.
Sauti framed the action as a decolonial move, explaining that Zimbabwe wants fair business and to be treated as an equal player in the critical resources market.
The analyst also emphasized the need for industrialization and technology investment in Zimbabwe, urging the country to produce finished, high-value products like lithium batteries and diamond rings.
The decision aligns with SADC's industrialization agenda, he noted, stating that Zimbabwe's resource-driven progress could play an important role in fighting poverty and promoting peace in the region.
The analyst called for more investment in research, development, and renewable energy to further boost the nation's resource capabilities and economic potential.
