Tanzanian Diplomat Takes Helm as EAC Secretary General
Ambassador Stephen Mbundi will serve a five-year term from 2026 to 2031, succeeding Veronica Nduva. He was sworn in before the regional bloc’s heads of state.
Mbundi, an experienced diplomat with over 28 years of experience, previously served as Permanent Secretary in Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mbundi has long collaborated with EAC institutions, development partners, and private stakeholders to advance regional integration.
His appointment is expected to boost the bloc’s efforts toward deeper economic, political, and social cooperation.
