Algeria to Launch Operations at Gigantic Zinc & Lead Mine
Work at the Tala Hamza-Amizour site, located in the Béjaïa province, will begin in the coming days, according to local media reports.
The investment for this project is estimated at $471 million.
This mine is considered one of the world's largest deposits of these two metals. The project is expected to produce 170,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate and 30,000 tonnes of lead annually.
With this launch, Algeria completes two of its three major mining projects undertaken in recent years, following the exploitation of the Gara Djebilet iron ore deposit near Tindouf. The third major project is the Tébessa phosphate mine, with production scheduled to begin in 2027.
