‘First in Africa’: Senegalese Journalist on New Media Regulator
The adoption of the bill creating the National Media Regulatory Council "is not merely a name change," Adama Sow told Sputnik Africa.
The council's activities will focus on content creators and influencers, who "are primarily the main source of information for our fellow citizens,” he emphasized.
At the same time, the real challenge lies in being able to regulate the international aspect, the journalist noted.
He clarified that this doesn't so much concern the established traditional foreign media as it does the digital giants and social networks.
"It's a challenge that many countries have attempted but haven't yet succeeded in," he stated.
According to Sow, this requires a great deal of education and a great deal of regulatory engineering.
